TACKLE BIG CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP!

PITCH-TO-PROTOTYPE IN ONE WEEKEND!

Startup Weekend Education (SWEDU) brings together people of all skillsets and experience levels to collaboratively launch tools, schools and learning spaces that reimagine the future of school and education more broadly. Everyone is welcome and no previous entrepreneurial experience is required!

This will be the third SWEDU in Los Angeles, but the first specifically focused on Next Gen School Models! We believe everyone---educators, developers, designers, students, parents---should be involved in shaping the schools of tomorrow. This event is a first step towards addressing three major problems in our local public education system:

1) Our students are saddled with an industrial-era school system in the 21st Century. We believe schools need to be fundamentally redesigned if we are to prepare all learners for the future.

2) The talent pipeline for launching bold new schools is woefully underdeveloped. We believe in developing a more robust pipeline of leaders with access to capital and technical assistance to start excellent schools.

3) There is a lack of diversity among school leadership. The current set of school founders rarely mirror the communities they are trying to serve. We believe that schools founded by leaders from their community of focus have increased success, as they are already connected with and invested in their community. Almost 75% of LAUSD's students are Latino, but the same can't be said about their principals.

Los Angeles is home to a vibrant and growing community of education entrepreneurs. We look forward to hearing your stories and learning about your ideas for change! Join us as we reimagine what school can look like.
